While InDesign offers an enormous amount of possibilities, sometimes this results in an overhead you’re not willing to pay. When an InDesign template is filled, you might end up with a delay of some seconds, and not all users are willing to wait that long. Or if the output needs to be generated by the thousands, it would add up to too much time.

Therefore, we also created our own templating system. PDF templates are configured online, and contain most of the features that InDesign does. There are a couple of things that aren’t possible, though:
- hyphenation with language libraries
- output of InDesign packages
- creation and configuration of templates in InDesign itself
PDF templates typically consist of a “creative” background, which you make in InDesign (or any other layout tool). On top of this background, which is imported into assetFLO, you are able to add variable content. Text, images, tables, groups, … all with their own settings.

Main advantages of PDF templates

  • very fast output
  • many features for conditional content
