As we're spreading internationally, we're meeting with a lot of new sales people ready to tackle the world. Most of them are quite good at what they do (thank you, Four Pees, for the good contacts!). But a lot of them at one time or another ask us this question. The answer is simple.
We don't compete with our customers
That seems clear enough. Our customers offer web2print services, database publishing solutions, digital asset management applications, and many other tools to their end customers in a SaaS model. And not only to corporate customers. Several of the FLO Suite customers have made a business out of offering services to smaller printing companies or design agencies. Simple online proofing applications (created around our flash viewer) are just one example of this.
So any system that we set up on a pay-per-use basis would compete with these initiatives. This is something that we're not doing now, and something that we won't do next year. Acutally, it won't happen while the current bosses of DMP are around and boss.
We try to keep it simple
And as if that is not enough reason not to go into a SaaS model, it would also violate one of our key principles in doing business. We try to keep things as simple as possible. This saves time and effort for important things. Such as product development. Right now we have an incredibly simple and easy to manage licensing model. One price, unlimited use. We don't spend ANY time on controlling this, because control simply isn't needed. Oh... and everybody pays maintenance. This also means that everybody's server can be updated to any version at any time.
Can you imagine the time that we save in this way? Time that we're happily spending thinking of new features and functionalities for our customers!
