We let the frietjes go stale on purpose

Tags: Frietjes
We have been adding some content to our website about frietjes. French fries, but with a belgian twist. The twist is that we make them better. We blog about them because we like them. But more importantly: we blog about them to show that anyone can use our content management system to get good results on Google. Even with irrelevant keywords.

The impact of fresh content

One of the major discussions about SEO and Google results is the impact of new content. Google is supposed to like sites that add new content regularly. By blogging or adding forums, for example.

We wanted to perform a little test about this, so we completely ignored frietjes for some time in our online communication. The impact on the Google ratings: non-existing. We're still on the first page:

http://www.google.com/search?q=frietjes

But at the same time, we've also been comparing it with the results of our other major keywords. Keywords that mean a little bit more to us, because they promote business (rather than free-loaders coming over for frietjes on friday). And for those keywords (things to do with web to print and related issues), results have improved significantly even over their initial success.

Keyword variations

Our conclusion: fresh content delivers a large amount of keyword variations. Blogging on a continuous basis provides you with a natural way (even without focusing on it too much) to provide content with variations on your message. And the chance that people stumble upon the right keywords dramatically increase.

So we'll definitely keep our blog going. Besides the fact that it is providing useful information to customers, it is also drawing a lot of traffic to our site. Traffic not only for us, but also for our SaaS Partners!

But if we're really serious about the frietjes-traffic, we should also start including some relevant information about mayonaise, goulash, the occasional curryworst special and some more of our local specialities.

The only thing we won't be doing, however, is adding intentional spelling mistakes. So sorry, if you find any it's not part of a big master plan to even further improve our SEO. It's just a plain clumsy oversight.
