Concept
FLO Media Viewer allows customers to create flash books out of a range of documents. These flash books can be placed online or viewed locally.
The basic technology behind FLO Media Viewer has existed for quite some time already in DMP FLO Suite, where the flash viewer is used to visualize assets in the DAM, results of variable web2print templates, and so on.
FLO Media Viewer is now also available as a standalone product, and got a new interface to configure the features available in the viewer.
New services by printing companies
A lot of the DMP FLO Suite customers already use the viewer as an additional service to their customers. Converting PDF files to the flash viewer to be embedded on the website of the end customer, for example.
A whole series of features has been added to increase this service. Bookmarks, hotspots linkine to the end customer's web shop, skinning of the viewer, and much more.
Soft Proofing
FLO Media Viewer can also be used in soft proofing workflows aimed at less advanced users. A simple interface allows them to do online content proofing. But FLO Media Viewer can also be linked to ripping software, to have an even more reliable proof.
For slightly more advanced users, the printing company can also turn on features like separation views, or showing/hiding the crop box.
InDesign Viewer
One of the most unique features of FLO Media Viewer is its direct integration with Adobe InDesign CS3 and CS4. A plug-in for InDesign is delivered with FLO Media Viewer, allowing creative people to publish their documents to flash books straight from the InDesign interface. This allows them to create a simple viewer for their artwork, without needing to distribute PDF files.
Creative Workflows
That same InDesign Viewer can also be configured to allow for annotations. The end user can give comments on the artwork. These comments can be sent back to the studio in the form of a PDF file with annotations. But even more time-saving: they can also be included in the original artwork, as a new InDesign layer with the comments in them.
